What To Look For When Buying A Used Motorcycle

If you are in the market to purchase a used motorcycle, you need to make sure that you are well aware of all of the things that you need to look for when doing so. To help you with this, you should check out the following points.

Thoroughly Inspect The Frame

Many parts can be easily replaced, but the frame must be in great shape from the very start or you will not be able to enjoy that motorcycle for very long. When inspecting the motorcycle, you will want to make sure that you are removing the seat and any other easily removed part in order to expose as much of the frame as possible. You want to make sure that the frame is not bent, rusted, or is showing signs that it was welded back together after being damaged.

Check The Condition Of The Chains

Chains that are not well maintained can put the driver in a lot of danger. Carefully look over the chains so you will be able to spot any present corrosion, such as rust. You will also want to make sure that you are pushing on the chains a little bit. This is to make sure that the chains are still a little flexible. Once you have tested one section, move the motorcycle forward so the chain rotates and then test the newly exposed section of chain. Continue to do this until you have tested the flexibility of the entire chain.

Properly Check The Tires

This does not mean that you are going to give the tires a good kick like you might have seen other people do. What you want to do is to make sure that you are carefully inspecting the tread on the tires to ensure that it has been wearing down evenly. If it has not been wearing evenly, and the tread is smaller on one side or another, then it is safe to say that the motorcycle has been used a lot while in need of repairs. This could be an indication of a bigger underlying issue so you may want to move on to another motorcycle.

Check For Missing Pieces

This goes beyond looking for the obvious, such as the seat and handle bars. You are going to want to thoroughly inspect the entire motorcycle to ensure that all nuts, bolts, covers, and everything else is in place and it is exactly where it should be. If there are a few missing parts, you may want to move on to another motorcycle as that one may not have been well maintained.

With those few suggestions in mind, you should have little trouble making sure that you are finding the best used motorcycle for your riding enjoyment. Look for a business that sells used Harley motorcycles for more information.
